THE POST OFFICE


Dialogue 79


A: Where are you going?

إِلى أَيْنَ تَذْهَبُ?

Ilā ayna tadhhabu?


B: I am going to the post office. And you?

أَذْهَبُ إِلى مَكْتَبِ البَرِيدِ. وَأَنْتَ

Adhhabu ilā maktabi al-barīd. Wa-anta?


A: I am going to the police station.

أَذْهَبُ إِلى مُفَرَّغِ الشُّرْطَةِ

Adhhabu ilā mufarraghi ash-shurṭah.


B: Why?

لِماذا

Limādhā?


A: A thief stole my purse.

لِصٌّ سَرَقَ مِنِّي مَحْفَظَةَ نُقودِي

Liṣṣun saraqa minnī maḥfaẓata nuqūdī.


B: Alright! Here is the police station. Go on! I will wait for you there in front of the door. But look at that man! His face is covered in blood.

حَسَناً! هُوَذا مُفَرَّغُ الشُّرْطَةِ. اِذْهَبْ! سَانْتَظِرُكَ هُناكَ أَمامَ البابِ. لكِنِ انْظُرْ إِلى هذا الرَّجُلِ! وَجْهُهُ مُغَطًّى بِالدَّمِ

Ḥasanan! Huwadhā mufarraghu ash-shurṭah. Idhhab! Sāntaẓiruka hunāka amāma al-bāb. Lākini unẓur ilā hādhā ar-rajul! Wajhuhu mughaṭṭan bi-ad-dam.
